Utility SHEA (Power)

Safety, Health, Environmental Awareness for Power Industry

Safety Health and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) suite of schemes have been developed in collaboration with industry to provide a uniform approach to health, safety and environmental awareness training across the utilities sector, in line with Health and Safety Executive guidelines.

Candidates who should attend

The scheme is aimed at all levels of the workforce: operatives, supervisors and management.Utility SHEA (Power) scheme is designed for individuals who require access to operational sites within the power industry, both permanent and temporary, at all levels including operatives, supervisors and management. A SHEA (Power) passport lasts for three years from the date of training.

Course Aims

With such work, safety is paramount. The hazards encountered by operatives on a day to day basis can be significant. It is therefore important that those working in such environments have an appropriate awareness of how to assess and react to the dangers present within the workplace.

Course Pre-requisites

None

Course Approach

A qualified trainer delivers the course which consists of 8 modules.

The 6 core modules are common to all utility industries and form the basis of health, safety and environmental law and practices. Two modules provide the power industry specific content.  It is designed to provide evidence that an individual has demonstrated an appropriate level of knowledge, understanding and behavioural awareness. Individuals must complete all eight modules and pass the SHEA Power assessment to gain EUSR SHEA Power registration. It is an Energy & Utility Skills Passport scheme and does not indicate any level of technical competence or skilled expertise.

Candidates must complete a registration form and successfully complete a multiple choice test at the end of the course.  Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be issued with a Cover Note valid for 45, thereafter a new EUSR Utility SHEA (Power) Card will be issued.  This card is valid for a 3-year period

The Utility SHEA (Power) scheme is affiliated with the CSCS to allow telecoms industry workers access to construction sites for purposes of utilities work without the need to complete a separate CSCS card.

Course Duration                    1 Day
