Modern Apprenticeships
McCrae Training deliver Modern Apprenticeships throughout Scotland covering Water and Waste-Water Networks, Treatment and Design.
As an approved Training Provider with SDS (Skills Development Scotland) we offer Modern Apprenticeships for your current and new staff which covers all age categories.
The benefits of a Modern Apprenticeship are your staff learn on the job, gaining the required practical knowledge and experience, whilst being trained, assessed and developed by our team of Water Industry Trainers & Assessors.
Modern Apprenticeships are partially funded via a Scottish Government contribution towards training and assessment. The higher the volume of Apprentices commencing the Apprenticeships the lower the costs.
Funding is administered, controlled and issued by SDS (Skills Development Scotland) in Scotland, and ESFA ( Education and Skills Funding Agency) in England (refer to attached list of Water Process Technician Pathways available in England under the Standards for Apprenticeship Levy paying employers).
There are many different Apprenticeship pathways that can be followed and are designed to suit the areas employers and their staff are operating within the Water / Waste-Water Sectors.

A Modern Apprenticeship is a training and assessment programme, building up candidates’ knowledge and competence while learning on the job. We can offer tailored programmes to fit around the candidate’s needs.
There is no minimum duration for apprentices to achieve their Modern Apprenticeship in Scotland. Our approach is to support apprentices at a pace suited to the individual. On average Level 2 Apprenticeships can however last between 24 months and Level 3 Apprenticeships can last between 36 months.
On completion of the Modern Apprenticeship, the candidate will receive an SQA certificate along with a full level 2 or level 3 Modern Apprenticeship certificate issued by the Sector Skills Council which is a recognised qualification within the utility industry.
The candidate builds up the knowledge and experience doing on the tools training. The apprentice will have to do a variety of different tests, PB and site visits from trainer to be classed as competent in the apprenticeship.
