A look into McCrae Training’s Specialist Skills Academy

For over nine years, McCrae Training Ltd has been committed to supporting the development of Water and Utility Sector staff across Scotland. This journey has created our Water Industry Skills Academy and Centre for Learning and Development Excellence and has led to the business supporting over 95% of Water and Wastewater Contractors and Consultants in Scotland.

As holders of the prestigious 2018 and 2019 Water Industry Training Organisation of the Year Awards, we are proud to now being shortlisted for the 2021 Water Industry Awards. Furthermore, we are honoured to be recognised for our efforts and positive contributions to the industry, from supporting career initiatives across local schools and colleges, to the development of Modern Apprenticeship Qualifications throughout the Water Industry.

Following on from our Employer Open Day last year – which marked the expansion of our Training and Assessment Centre – we have been underway with growth plans that will see McCrae Training enhance our Water Industry Skills Academy with the launch of our Portal on our website which will operate as a further critical enabler for key stakeholders to meet the skills challenges and shortages currently faced by the UK Utility Sector. To date, approximately 18% of the UK Water Industry workforce are over 55 years of age and are set to retire within the next five to ten years.

Understanding the absolute importance of specialist training and assessment, we have established joint partnerships and initiatives with universities, employers, schools and colleges, award organisations and many other key stakeholders, to form as part of the Water Industry Skills Academy for Scotland where our strategic aim is creating career and development opportunities across all age groups which in turn support sustainable employment.
